My Story
I
was about 9 years old when I first picked up the guitar. Soon after I
learnt my first few chords I developed an overwhelming desire to write
my own songs. After many an aborted attempt I reasoned I must just be a
musician rather than a songwriter, I thought you were either born with
the writing skill or you weren't PERIOD. It wasn't till a few years
later, when I was messing around on the guitar out of nowhere came a
great chorus. I couldn't believe my luck, I had written (to my mind) a
perfectly catchy chorus that was worthy of the Billboard Top 100, hell
maybe even Top 10!
Then I realised I needed some verses, and a
bridge, maybe an intro and an outro, and could I write any of them?
Hell no! I worked and worked, trying for the life of me to complete the
song but never could. After a while I once again reasoned, that luck
had been on my side that day when I wrote the earth shattering chorus,
and I wasn't a writer after all. Years went past and a few more musical
nuggets found their way onto the page, I even managed to complete a
song or two, but still hadn't become what I would call a 'proper'
songwriter. The thought of having to put together an album's worth of
material was a daunting task to say the least.
